What the heck do I do to fix this? I just wanted to be able to plug this in, and start backing up my mac laptop. It also says “Not Mounted”, but the “Mount” button doesn’t do anything when I click on it. In Disk Utility if I click on the external drive and try to perform any of the utilities (First Aid,Erase, Restore) I get failed messages. If I select Initialize it brings up Disk Utility. There are buttons for me to “Initialize”, “Ignore”, or “Eject”. I erased what ever was on the easy store device, and now every time I plug in the USB cord I get an error that says “The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer”. The next thing a window said before easy store could be used I had to erase the info (was confused by this, because this is my first time using it, so why would there be anything on the easy store device where I’d have to erase it before using it). We have a complete guide to using Time Machine to back up your Mac here.

All you need to do is plug in an external storage device, hard drive or SSD, and start backing up with Time Machine. Later, select Macintosh HD the system volume, and click the Erase tab to erase the volume. Next, delete Macintosh HD Data the user volume, using the volume icon present on the top panel of Disk Utility. It's an exceptionally easy to use solution. The answer is you need to back up your Mac first, then open Disk Utility in macOS Recovery mode. I am only using 22GB of data on my Mac, and the easy store is 2TB, so I should have plenty of space. Apple includes its own backup software, Time Machine as part of the macOS. Now, select the external device from the sidebar and click on the 'Erase' button. Firstly, launch the Disk Utility application on your Mac and make sure the external device is connected to it.
I followed the directions to do this, and I got my first error that there was not enough space to do backup. To adjust its security level and fix the erase process has failed on Mac, follow these steps: Step 1. There’s no problem in doing this, although it’s possible that Time Machine will back up a lot more files from the new Mac and thus fill up its drive. I plugged in the USB cord and a window popped up if I wanted to use with Time Machine. If you want to use your old Time Machine backup with your new Macand there’s no inherent reason why you shouldn’tbe aware that macOS will prompt you to inherit the backup history. Ok here is what I’ve done since I bought the 2TB WD easy store external device for my Mac.
